Day 27 – Thanks to The Seattle Grind (In Winslow)

I don’t have a lot to report today as I mainly hung around The Seattle Grind coffee shop (and gallery) and edited some shots. Jim the owner is a gracious host and let me loiter. It was a pretty slow day all around. I got some work done but am still so far behind. Oh well, a lot of shots are better then no shots. I’ll take having too many over none any day.

I did check out the La Posada Hotel after Jim closed up shop (on his recommendation). It’s an old hotel down the street from the main “corner” here in Winslow. It’s been around since the 30s and is pretty impressive. It’s filled with incredible artwork, paintings, carvings, handmade furniture, sculptures etc. A real art haven. I guess you’d call it a boutique hotel, it’s very nice, warm and cozy. Obviously I wasn’t staying there but was able to wander and get some shots (more to edit), and will post some here soon. The vibe was relaxed and quirky, lots of side rooms and sitting areas to explore and relax in.

After that I shot a few shots of “the corner” as dusk set in and made my way closer to Walmart where I’ll be parking again tonight. Just using the wi-fi at McDonalds for a bit then off to sleep.

Tomorrow I think I’ll need to move along. I have a few single shots to get before I head out but then I’ll be back on the road. Not sure where I’ll hang the car keys tomorrow.

Cheers from the road.

Day 14 – An Inside Work Day

It was an uneventful day, hard to get a flat tire when you’re not driving anywhere. On the brighter side I got a lot of the side work to this trip done. I got my IndieGoGo project online. I got my photo editing 90% caught up and enjoyed the vibe of Grounds for Coffee, a nice friendly chill coffee shop in Ogden Utah which picked up at night.

I spent my last night in the Ogden Walmart. Heading out tomorrow.

More coming as I head into the canyon areas of Utah to shoot, shoot, shoot.

Day 13 – Not Much to Report

Today was pretty uneventful. I took the truck in to get my 3rd flat fixed and the tire had a hole in it the size of a dime so they were unable to repair it. The guys at Big O Tires here in Ogden Utah sold me a matching used one for $45 plus taxes and enviro fees. I’m back at 100 % with 4 tires and a spare.

I spent the rest of the day in a Starbucks editing some shots and tweaking this blog. I changed the photo section to draw in my shots posted on Flickr as I just don’t have the time to upload shots to my store, Flickr, my Facebook page and here so I’m trying to streamline my workload a little. I can export lower resolution shots from my store to Flickr and now those will appear here as well. Three birds with one upload.

Aside from that, I’m back at the Ogden Walmart for the night. Gonna watch an episode of “House” then get some sleep. Not sure what I’ll do tomorrow as I still haveĀ  a lot of edits to do. I saw an indie coffee shop I may have to try and work out of tomorrow.

Until tomorrow, Goodnight all,

Day 9 – Slow Moving to Boise

Waking beside the Salmon River just outside of White Bird Idaho I carried on my way through Salmon River Canyon. I stopped a few places to enjoy the riverside and took a few shots. One thing I noticed that was a little annoying is that in most places the road was on one side of the river and the power lines and poles were on the other. This made getting nice, wide, clean natural shots a little difficult. Oh well, it was beautiful anyway and a nice sunny hot day.

As I came into New Meadows I was reminded that I was looking for coffee by the big “Espresso” sign I saw outside of the Roadhouse Java coffee shop. I went in and was greeted by Jeff. Jeff was a fairly quiet guy who I found out moved there from Utah as the traffic in the Salt Lake area was getting to him. When asked what brought him to Idaho he just pointed out the window and said “All this. I love the mountains”. I agree, it was a nice stop and I too was happy to be there at that moment and not churning away in my box in downtown Vancouver or trying to negotiate my way through the construction that is around every turn in the greater Vancouver area these days. Anyway, back to Jeff and The Roadhouse. They have WIFI so I decided to get some writing done, finishing off my piece on the Dog Bark Park and my update for yesterday. While I sat in the corner Jeff greeted everyone from locals needing their “fix” to tourists looking to rent a room in the adjacent motel. One fellow had three questions regarding the rooms having TVs and that they got the channel for tonight’s college football game being broadcast from Boise State University against Oregon State. This is how I came to know about the game in Boise.

So while in or passing through New Meadows Idaho be sure to stop and say hello to Jeff at Roadhouse Java. Awesome coffee from a guy that really appreciates the business.

Onward I went wandering some rural farm roads and looking for some old houses etc. Must not have been my day but the pickins were slim today for photos. I made my way into Boise and explored down town a little, then while heading out of the core I went by the stadium where the game was on and was blown away by what I saw. The whole area was a excited hum of football fueled energy. This college game and the enthusiasm that these fans put into their team makes our CFL look pretty weak in comparison. Perhaps I’m just mislead because of what I’ve witnessed with the BC Lions but these people are nuts for their football. Congrats to Boise for the win too!

Anyway. I’ve located the Walmart that will be home tonight and I may do some edits in a library tomorrow for the majority of the day. I guess it all depends how I feel when I wake up, and if there’s one open.

Night from Boise.

Day 114 – A Perfect End To A Great Week

This week has been awesome for shots. I’m currently transferring another 60+ gig worth of raw files from the last two days.

Freshly fueled and coffee in hand I left Stettler this morning but didn’t get very far before I was out of the truck, camera in tow. I wasn’t even half done my coffee when I spotted a large field full of junk, then the truck with a sign saying “Antique Junk for Sale”. Heaven. I pulled into Hennel Salvage and was greeted with another sign inviting me to browse safely at my own risk. As I was getting my stuff ready A couple fellows drove up that worked there. They were friendly and directed me to things I might be interested in. Two hours later I was down a camera battery and had no more room on my flash cards.

While sipping on my cold coffee and copying the cards to my field drive I continued on, thinking I needed some houses to balance all the vehicles I just shot. Well, houses is what I got… all day.

Needless to say my week was busy, full and wonderful. I’m rewarding myself with a few days off in Calgary, where I once lived for seven years. So I plan on meeting some old friends I haven’t seen in awhile and catching up. Then I’ll continue on. It’s looking that I may get home to Vancouver a little early. Just in time to experience a little of what the Vancouver 2010 Olympics have to offer before they finish. I think catching the last few days of the excitement will be just enough for me.

Go Canada Go!!
